Tom Mason, founder of Mason Public Affairs, combines more than 40 years’ professional experience at the intersection of media, public policy and marketing. He is also president of the Alliance for a Healthier Minnesota (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mason Public Affairs), an employer-focused organization that promotes health and prevention in the workplace.

Tom has consulted to a who's who of local businesses and individuals from Fortune 500 companies to government agencies. He has worked with Target, General Mills, Cargill, Medtronic, Medica, Blue Cross, United Healthcare, the Centers for Disease Control and Minnesota's Department of Health. 

He currently custom-publishes Thinking Minnesota, the red-hot magazine of Center of the American Experiment, the Minneapolis-based think tank and Enterprise Minnesota, the go-to magazine for Minnesota's manufacturing industry.

As a journalist, Tom reported for two Minnesota-based daily newspapers, spent three years as editor of a weekly financial journal, and for five years was editor and publisher of Twin Cities Business Monthly, a magazine that several times was named America’s best regional business magazine during his tenure.

He worked 13 years in and around the United States Senate, beginning as communications director for Senator Rudy Boschwitz, and subsequently serving as chief of staff in the Washington, D.C. offices of Senators Jim Abdnor (R-SD) and Norm Coleman (R-MN). He also worked as director of communications-and-research at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the political arm of the U.S. Senate GOP leadership. He was a senior advisor in the office of Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty.

For five years Tom was president of Gannon McCarthy Mason, a public affairs consulting firm with offices in Washington, D.C. and New York City. 

Tom has consulted to or managed 17 statewide political campaigns in the U.S. Internationally, Tom has worked with candidates and political parties in Ukraine, Georgia, and Bulgaria. 

Tom has served as a board member for a variety board of organizations. They include: Trust for America’s Health, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit, Center of the American Experiment; The Memorial Blood Centers of Minnesota; the Minnesota Council on Quality; the Capital City Partnership; the Greater Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce; the Turnaround Management Association, and the Greater Minneapolis Convention and Visitors’ Association. 

From 2004-2013 he served on the adjunct faculty of the Masters of Advocacy and Political Leadership at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. 

He lives in North Oaks, Minnesota with Paula, his wife of 39 years. They met at band camp. (Really).
